On the basis of government requirements, we have to observe strict regulations regarding the emission of hazardous substances, and we are keen to do so. After all, we are aware of the fact that there is only one earth and that we must do our best to protect it.
Fortunately, there are more and more modern technologies to help us limit emissions. For instance, the nitric acid plants are equipped with a system to restrict the emission of greenhouse gases to a minimum. These plants – intended for the production of fertilizers – are some of the most environmentally friendly in the world and resulted in us being awarded the VNCI (Dutch Chemical Industry Association) Responsible Care Award in 2008.At OCI Nitrogen, we are continually focusing on how we can optimise our production processes even further and how we can convert by-products and residual products into something useful. For instance, argon released during the production of ammonia is collected and sold to industrial clients. We are also an active contributor of the Stichting Veldleeuwerik (Skylark Foundation), in which farmers and the food industry work together to bring about sustainable crop cultivation.
