Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is a by-product of ammonia production in Geleen. It makes up a small percentage (0.03%) of the air around us.
Carbon dioxide is vital to the growth of plants, which convert it into oxygen, which is of course essential for humans and animals.
‚ÄčThe raw CO2 produced requires further purification if it is to comply with the quality requirements for use in food products, for example soft drinks. The purification process is carried out by the neighbouring firm of Carbolim, which then distributes foodstuff quality CO2. Raw CO2 is also used in the production of melamine (via urea) and caprolactam. Distribution within the Chemelot site in Geleen (NL) is by means of pipelines.
