Melamine and the consumer

Products containing melamine have been used safely each day for over 50 years by consumers worldwide, in everything from kitchen worktops, laminate floors, work-surfaces and furniture to dinnerware, banknotes and automotive coatings. All these products contain a bonded, melamine-based polymer that is completely safe.

Melamine is also used as halogen-free flame-retardant in paints, furniture and mattresses, where it complies with health and safety requirements.

Working with melamine

Melamine is classified as non-hazardous (EU Directive 67/548/EEC). The toxicological and behavioral properties of melamine are well documented.
